Can you tell us about the objects you make - what are they made from and what are they used for?

I make objects of use from storm fallen and reclaimed timber. The objects range from tableware, spoons, brushes , vases and sculptures. They are all made by hand, hand carved and organic in their form.

The shapes of your objects are so unique and interesting. What inspires them, and are any two pieces ever the same?

Thank you! I’ve always set out to make things not found anywhere else. I’m really drawn to organic form and texture. I want them to be picked up, used and admired. I try not to overthink the forms, instead I work intuitively.

Who are the greatest inspirations on your work?

In terms of inspiration I’m always inspired by others, the path they have taken into creativity and the tools and methods they use are really interesting to me. The process is just as important as the outcome. I’m also forever inspired by nature and the change of the seasons.

Tell us about the wood you use to make the objects.

I use trees that have come down in storms, and reclaimed timber. It's great to be able to have a variation of patterns and tones within the same medium. They also have their own unique properties which is always an interesting challenge. I often work with stated timbers which have lots of patterns that run through them giving really beautiful grain patterns.

What do you look for when selecting clothing, for work and non-work?

My style is very oversized, boxy comfy smart / casual clothing. I like being able to wear something I can move around in, be productive in then head out to the pub from the studio without having to get changed. I often have meetings or visitors to the studio in the day so a mix of functional as well as being able to mix in smarter pieces and layering is also really important.

What is the project or piece you are most proud of so far in your career?

I don’t think there is any one piece but I’m really proud I’ve been able to sustain this for so long and make pieces I’m really happy with. I love that I can explore, be playful and create objects to live on in people's homes.

Do you have any exciting up-coming projects you can tell us about?

Im currently working towards a new collection of objects which I am really excited about! I am also working on a couple of things behind the scenes and I hope to be able to share more in a few months.

What drew you towards the Lavenham Bomber Jacket? What do you like about Lavenham clothing?

I really love the fit, and the colour is beautiful. I’m drawn to earthy autumnal tones and I like the texture that the unpadded quilting has. It's a great transitional piece and being able to layer with other textures works well.
